PAWNEE vs Drumright Tornadoes

We need these 15 district points to be at 14 points, one game at a time.
The Drumright Tornadoes started off with a convincing win over Wellston (38-14) and a late score win over Liberty (21-13). However, their next five games (Haskell, Woodland, Morrison, Tonkawa combined scoring of 221 to 76 points and Pawnee next on schedule) has been their toughest part of their schedule for the Tornadoes.
We should be able to get to several of our kids play this week. Don't give up on the Black Bears! Keep your BEAR PRIDE and stay in the boat...

Improvement.
These last four (4) games will determine if we have a slim chance to make it into the playoffs. The Tornadoes, the Tigers, the Haymakers and the Wildcats still lurk in the future, wins would put us in district point fight for fourth position. We have -1 points, we need the next three games by 15 points and go into Morrison with a great game plan to fight for the fourth spot if Woodland and Tonkawa knock off Morrison, if the wins are over 15 points. Probably too many "ifs" but if we can get those next three games and Woodland and Tonkawa help us out, we would go into Morrison with the "slim chance."

Pawnee looks to make it 3-in-a-row
Pawnee High’s first two district football games couldn’t have been much tougher.
Not only were they matched up against No. 14 Hominy and second-ranked Tonkawa, but also two coaches who had previously guided the Black Bears (3-2, 2-2 District A-7).
“We were really at a disadvantage after the first
two games because of that,” coach Todd Beer said. “We were thrown in the fire
but that’s the district schedule early on.”

Room to Improve
After a 21-point shutout against Yale High last week, Pawnee High will challenge another seemingly easy opponent.
The Black Bears (2-2) will play Barnsdall (0-4), but Pawnee coach Todd Beer said he won't take any team for granted.
"I wouldn't call any game easy, but I hope we get out there and play well," he said. Read more...

After hearing the plaque of penalties versus the Bulldogs, I would call this a tune-up game before our folks across the river, Woodland (2007 Class A State Runner-up) takes stage at Memorial Field this Friday.

Pawnee blanks Yale in A-7 play
YALE — The Pawnee Black Bears righted themselves Friday after suffering two straight losses by defeating the scrappy Yale Bulldogs 21-0.
Pawnee scored in the first quarter and led 8-0 at the half. The Bears added 13 points in the third quarter to round out the scoring.
Cameron Heisler picked up the first Black Bear touchdown on a 17-yard run. Quarterback Tate Beer ran for the two-point conversion to give Pawnee an 8-0 advantage. Read more...

Bouncing back
After a 42-16 loss to second-ranked Tonkawa last week, Pawnee fell to a losing record but its goals are still intact.
Class A No. 13 Pawnee will play Yale (0-3) on Friday. In light of last week’s loss, coach Todd Beer said the Black Bears (1-2) are down but not out.
“We’ve still got both feet ahead of us,” he said. “We still have a shot. District championship is probably out of the picture, but we still have to finish as high in the district as we can, so we’ve just got to take it one game at a time and try to get into playoffs.”
Despite the big loss, Beer said the team is progressing well so far. Read more...

This game should be our attempt to work out our woes offensively. Remember, the Bears are young at the keys position but with more snaps on offense, I believe we will be fighting for the third or fourth spot in the district. It would take some really odd things to happen in other match-ups between Hominy, Woodland, Tonkawa and Morrison games to change it for us to be at home for the playoffs.

This game was an eye opener to the BLACK BEAR Nation. With the David and Colby Ellis at Tonkawa, the Tonkawa Buccaneers could be in the hunt for a Class A State Championship.

A great game to win on the road, regardless if it's one (1) point or twenty-one (21) points. Like they say, "A win is a win."

Beer era begins with thrilling victory
First-year Pawnee High coach Todd Beer began his Black Bear career with a close-call victory he called a “dogfight.”
Pawnee beat Pawhuska, 14-13, Friday night on the Huskies’ turf.
The Black Bears scored both touchdowns in the first quarter. Sophomore Tate Beer threw a 35-yard pass to senior Sonny Moore, but Pawnee missed the extra-point kick.
Junior Nelson Duncan intercepted a pass for a 46-yard return touchdown, and Tate Beer ran the ball to score the two-point conversion. Read more...

Allen playing large role in Black Bear morale
With many teams, the standout leader is the quarterback.
That isn’t the case with Pawnee. Senior nose guard Zach Allen is setting the standard for the Black Bears this year. Coach Todd Beer said Allen has been a great kid from Day 1.
“I just met him this summer,” Beer said. “He was one of the first kids I met when I came in. He seemed excited to get football started. He was our leader every day during the summer. He was here when I got here, came in every day and set the tone for leadership. Read more...

Big shoe to fill
There’s a new coach in the Black Bears’ den this year.
Coach Todd Beer is leading Pawnee. The goal, Beer said, is to finish as high as possible in district play, or best case scenario: win the championship.
“It’s going to be tough,” he said. “I think we have a chance. I think there’s about five teams in this district in Class A, so it’s going to be a tough chore. Pretty good competition across the board.”
Being the new guy in town, Beer said he’s enjoying Pawnee football so far. Read more...

Big shoe to fill
Pawnee’s last two football coaches have been products of two of the school’s main rivals.
Both have eventually returned to their hometowns to help said rivals.
David Ellis, who resigned as PHS’s football coach last month, will be the head baseball coach, assistant football coach and possibly assistant girl’s basketball coach at Tonkawa next season.
It is a similar story to his Black Bear predecessor, Scott Harmon, who left the school for McAlester before winding up as the head coach in his hometown of Hominy.
Ellis said a number of factors played into his decision to go home. Read more...
